While I didn’t grow up with Minecraft, I, like many others, was captivated by the freedom it offered. My Little Universe by developer Estoty aims to be a simpler take on the resource-gathering formula. Is it a worthy adventure or just another clone? Gameplay

Although comparisons to Minecraft are inevitable, My Little Universe stands on its own. Instead of building grand structures, the focus is on exploration, gathering materials, and unlocking new terrain. You play as a tiny humanoid explorer on a circular world that expands as you harvest resources.

The gameplay loop is simple: collect resources, level up tools, defeat enemies, and unlock new zones. Combat is basic—swing and dodge—with occasional boss fights that rarely present a challenge. There are light RPG mechanics such as gaining perks by leveling up, giving a slight roguelike feel.

While the gameplay is easy to pick up, it becomes repetitive quickly. Even with up to four players in co-op, the loop remains unchanged. You’re not building castles or crafting unique creations—you’re unlocking paths to more content, which may not satisfy long-term players.

Graphics

One of the strongest aspects of My Little Universe is its visual charm. With colorful, cute environments ranging from lava planets to aquatic zones, the game is easy on the eyes. It won’t stress your PS5’s hardware, but it certainly holds its own with clean, pleasant visuals.

Sound

My Little Universe features calming and endearing music that fits the game’s relaxing vibe. However, the soundtrack lacks variety and becomes repetitive over time. I eventually muted the game and opted for my own music or a podcast in the background. It’s not bad—just forgettable.

Story

Unlike the ambiguous world-building of Minecraft, My Little Universe gives you a basic premise: crash land on a planet and work your way to the next. There’s no deeper narrative or lore, and honestly, the game doesn’t need it. The minimal story serves its purpose just fine.
