Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 Review

“The man with no fear returns once again”
Introduction
I had high hopes for Daredevil: Born Again, something I made evident in my first impressions. There were concerns about how Disney would handle the formerly Netflix-produced series. After nine episodes, were those fears justified? Did this new entry deliver the revival fans needed for Matt Murdock and Kingpin? Here’s my full review of Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, now streaming on Disney+.
Story

Daredevil: Born Again shifts away from the intense action, romance, and noir drama of the Netflix version to focus on Matt’s legal career and Wilson Fisk’s rebrand as the mayor of New York. While the narrative is grounded in human emotion and political intrigue, it does lose some of the thrilling unpredictability the original had.
The positives? The writing leans heavily into darker, more introspective tones. Matt’s struggle to remain a lawyer first and vigilante second is compelling. Fisk’s political manipulation adds an unnerving realism. However, the story lacks shock value. The return of Daredevil and Kingpin to their roots feels inevitable. Newcomer Heather Glenn doesn’t quite match the depth of Karen Page, and Muse—while intriguing—is underutilized.
Acting and Cast

Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio once again embody Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk to perfection. Their inner conflicts are believable and drive the emotional weight of the series. Jon Bernthal’s Punisher was a bit over-the-top at times, especially in the finale, but fans will still enjoy his return.
Supporting performances from Wilson Bethel (Poindexter) and Kamar de los Reyes (White Tiger/Hector Ayala) stand out as emotional highlights. Every cast member brought energy and depth to the screen, making Daredevil: Born Again a standout in terms of performance.
Cinematography and Direction

The visual tone of Born Again is polished and cinematic, especially in dialogue-heavy scenes. While the action doesn’t quite reach the choreography of the Netflix days, standout sequences like the Muse battle and the finale bring back some of that fire. The direction overall is strong but doesn’t always match the original’s gritty tone.
Pros
- More narrative-driven storytelling that deepens the characters
- Grim tone and serious themes that resonate with mature viewers
- References to the broader MCU hint at big future plans
- Brutal and effective use of violence when needed
Cons
- Action scenes lack the grit and intensity of Netflix’s version
- Punisher feels underused and occasionally cartoonish
- Story can feel too safe with few real surprises
Overall Score
8.0
Conclusion

I won’t say I didn’t enjoy Daredevil: Born Again, but I definitely hoped for more. While it captures the essence of Matt and Wilson, the story rarely takes bold risks. The narrative structure has highs and lows, and though we get moments of brilliance, they’re too few. Still, for fans of the character and franchise, this is a must-watch. With teases of bigger things ahead, I’m optimistic that Season 2 may just bring back the full Daredevil experience we’ve been craving.
