“Tiny store, large expectations”

As much as I love action games or JRPGs/RPGs, I’m never against picking up a simpler title to relax with. Tiny Witch from developers Creative Hand aims to deliver that kind of experience, though don’t expect it to always be stress-free. While simple in design and gameplay, Tiny Witch has surprising depth and I was shocked at how much I enjoyed this indie gem. Should you join our small witch and grow into a big store owner, or is this cozy title too simple? Let’s find out in my review of Tiny Witch for the Nintendo Switch!

Gameplay

Tricked into running a small shop, our tiny witch must please customers and meet daily quotas. The challenge is daunting, but you won’t be left without ways to succeed. Tiny Witch feels very similar to Overcooked, where players start with simple recipes and must combine magical items to serve customers. Gameplay unfolds on a grid-based layout as you craft and fuse items under pressure.

Time management is critical. Customers grow impatient if forced to wait too long—some throw items at you, costing money, while others leave smaller tips or storm out entirely. The first few days ease you into the basics, but by day five, Tiny Witch becomes a fast-paced test of micromanagement and skill.

As days progress, the game introduces new recipes, items, hazards, and helpful boons. You can purchase more crafting stations or unlock placement items like animals and books, which influence customer behavior. These upgrades are crucial when managing demanding patrons. I found Tiny Witch best enjoyed in short bursts—it’s fun, frantic, and rewarding but not something I could play for hours at a time.

Tiny Witch blends retro charm with modern indie design. When not watching cutscenes or dialogue, the grid-based gameplay has a nostalgic, old-school aesthetic. The hand-drawn art and character designs are adorable and easy on the eyes. While it won’t win awards for visual fidelity, the art style suits the experience perfectly.

Sound

The sound design is simple but fitting. Light, cutesy tunes balance with frantic tracks during busy shop hours, matching the tempo of gameplay. Outside of that, relaxed OST tracks set a cozy tone. There’s no voice acting, which is expected given the game’s budget-friendly price point of $9.99 (or a special discount of $3.49 on Steam until September 25th).

Story

The narrative is straightforward: a tiny witch is duped into proving her worth as a shopkeeper. There’s some background lore scattered throughout, but nothing overly complex. For this type of game, it works—the story provides just enough purpose to keep you invested in helping the witch succeed.

Overall Impression

Tiny Witch is a cozy yet challenging indie title. While not built for long marathon sessions, it’s perfect for quick bursts of engaging gameplay. The price is extremely fair, and the combination of frantic shopkeeping and resource management makes for a fun experience. Indie gamers who enjoy management sims or Overcooked-style challenges will likely love it.

Pros:

  • Fun but challenging gameplay that ramps up as days progress
  • Charming artwork and cute visuals
  • Great value for its price

Cons:

  • Not ideal for long play sessions
  • No multiplayer support
  • Noticeable slowdowns when resuming from Switch sleep mode

Overall Score

8.0

Conclusion

Tiny Witch is a delightful indie title that deserves attention. Creative Hand crafted a fun, simple, and rewarding shopkeeping sim that grows more challenging as you progress. It may not hit everyone’s radar, but for those who enjoy cozy yet demanding games, Tiny Witch is a great choice on both PC and Nintendo Switch.
