Introduction

Anime distributor AnimEigo and parent company MediaOCD announce the upcoming home media Blu-ray release of Bubblegum Crisis: Perfect Collection on February 11.

Originally released in Japan in 1987, Bubblegum Crisis became an OVA (Original Video Animation) mega-hit among early American anime fans. This cyberpunk classic, known for its blend of mecha, 80s J-pop, and noir storytelling, is now being re-released in a high-definition collector’s edition.

The Bubblegum Crisis: Perfect Collection Blu-ray Edition features all eight episodes of the original series in full 1080p HD, alongside a new video interview with character designer Kenichi Sonoda. A special 50-page booklet filled with interviews and liner notes is also included.

A Cyberpunk Anime Classic by a Who’s Who of Anime

Bubblegum Crisis features character designs by Kenichi Sonoda (Riding Bean, Gunsmith Cats, Gall Force), production design by Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed, Full Metal Alchemist, Space Pirate Captain Harlock 2013), and direction by Katsuhito Akiyama (Armitage III), Masami Obari (Detonator Orgun), Fumihiko Takayama (Patlabor III), and more. The series’ mechanical designs were created by Sonoda, Aramaki, and Hideki Kakinuma (Detonator Orgun).

The success of the series led to several sequels, including AD Police Files, Parasite Dolls, and Bubblegum Crash, also distributed by AnimEigo.
