Solo Leveling Season 2 Review

“Rising to the challenges”
Introduction

The once web novel that would then become a webtoon and eventually an anime needs little introduction. Solo Leveling has taken the anime community by storm, becoming one of the biggest anime series of all time—and the second season is continuing that trend. Solo Leveling Season 2 wasted no time breaking various records left and right, showing it was an anime with a lot to prove to both source material fans and anime-only viewers. I watched every episode of Season 2 as it released (and even reviewed the movie which you can find here), so I couldn’t wait to share my full thoughts. Is Sung Jinwoo’s latest battle to save his mother and grow stronger truly worth the hype—or is it being overrated? Let’s find out!
Story

Picking up directly from the end of Season 1, Solo Leveling Season 2 brings us back to E-rank hunter Sung Jinwoo as he continues his quest to gain levels and enter the S-rank dungeon holding the materials for the Elixir of Life. Season 2 essentially splits into two arcs—the Elixir of Life and the fourth raid on Jeju Island. The Jeju arc, in particular, revisits the trauma of a previously failed raid where many hunters lost their lives.
I loved the structure of both arcs, which brought satisfying closure to Jinwoo’s goal of saving his mother while continuing his progression through the system. As a fan of the original webtoon, I know this season serves more as a buildup to the larger war ahead, but even as a standalone arc, Season 2 blends drama, action, and redemption quite well.
Animation

A1-Pictures continues to prove they were the right choice for this adaptation. Some episodes—especially the battles against the Ant King and Baran—were absolutely breathtaking. Even the more laid-back episodes had strong visuals. At no point did I feel the animation dipped; every frame looked stunning and polished.
Sound

I watched both the Japanese and English dubs of Solo Leveling Season 2, and while the English version isn’t fully released yet, what’s available is fantastic. I personally prefer the Japanese dub, but both offer excellent voice acting. As for the music? The opening theme “Reawaken” by Lisa and Felix (Stray Kids) was so good I never skipped it. The ending theme “Un-Apex” by TK wasn’t quite my style, but that’s subjective. I will note they reused some Season 1 tracks a bit too often—but given how much I loved the original OST, I wasn’t too bothered.
Characters

Season 1 was mostly centered around Jinwoo, but Season 2 smartly broadens the scope. We finally get to see more from other powerful S-rank hunters like Baek Yoonho and Choi Jongin, and even Cha Haein gets to show off her skills. Jinwoo still dominates the spotlight, but I appreciated that the anime gave time to build out the world and show off other guilds and characters. Fans of the webtoon will also recognize some familiar faces appearing near the end—setting the stage for what’s to come.
Webtoon vs Anime

I’ve read the entire Solo Leveling webtoon, and while I forgot a few details, I remembered enough to appreciate the accuracy of Season 2. There are some minor changes—like Beru’s ability to speak and tweaks to the Jeju Island raid—but they don’t detract from the experience. If anything, a few of the changes help the anime flow better. Hardcore fans may spot differences, but overall, Season 2 sticks very closely to the source material—and that made me happy.
Pros
- A1-Pictures pushed the animation quality to movie-level highs
- More screen time for other hunters, expanding the cast
- Incredible fight sequences that elevate the pacing
Cons
- Reuses a bit too much of Season 1’s OST
Overall Score
10
Conclusion
Solo Leveling Season 2 was perfect in my honest opinion. From the gorgeous animation to the electric soundtrack, there wasn’t a moment I felt disappointed. I’ve rewatched it twice, and even trying to be critical didn’t change my mind—this deserves a 10. Sure, some may nitpick, but for me, Solo Leveling Season 2 embodies everything a sequel should be. I can’t wait for Season 3, and given the massive success of these two seasons, I’m sure it’s already in the works!
