“A man and his hot air balloon”

Introduction

What do you get when you mix a hot air balloon with resource management and strange airborne entities? You get Inky Blinky Bob. No, this isn’t a Pac-Man spin-off—despite the name sounding like one. Developer ELDELIC GAMES steps onto the scene with an original concept for their debut title. But does this first outing soar into the sky, or does it fall flat before takeoff? Let’s find out in our demo review of Inky Blinky Bob for PC. Big thanks to ELDELIC GAMES for the early preview copy!

Gameplay

After a strange crash landing and an even stranger helper, you quickly learn two things: first, you’re dealing with a corporate experiment gone horribly wrong; second, you’ll be fighting from a hot air balloon. Yes, Inky Blinky Bob is a strange game—but it has charm.

When you’re not scavenging for supplies, you’re piloting a customizable hot air balloon gifted to you by an eccentric ally. The demo showcases both exploration and aerial combat, and neither feels bad. Balloon controls took some time to master—especially since controller support isn’t fully polished yet—but once I adapted, traversal felt smooth. That’s important because the demo throws a sky boss and several airborne enemies at you.

The demo is short, but what’s present shows promise. Exploration flows well, and upgrading your balloon or collecting resources feels straightforward. I would have liked more time experimenting with ground-based gunplay, but from trailers and previews, it appears solid.

Visually, Inky Blinky Bob didn’t immediately wow me. That doesn’t mean it looks bad—it doesn’t—but outside of the large aerial boss and some enemy designs, the environments felt somewhat plain. The world could use a bit more visual personality to match the unique gameplay concept.

That said, I did appreciate the gritty, comic-book-inspired aesthetic. It gives the game identity, even if the overall presentation feels like it needs further refinement. Since this is a demo build, I’m hopeful the final version adds more visual flair and polish.

Sound

Exploration-heavy games live and die by atmosphere. Inky Blinky Bob delivers solid ambient tones and background effects that enhance the sense of exploration. The sound design during balloon combat also carries decent weight.

However, the voice acting in the demo didn’t impress me. We only hear a small sample, so I won’t judge the entire game based on it, but what’s present feels underwhelming. It doesn’t ruin the experience, but it’s an area that could benefit from improvement.

Overall Impression

There’s genuine potential in Inky Blinky Bob. The core gameplay—especially the customizable hot air balloon combat—stands out in a crowded indie market. The survival and resource systems hint at deeper mechanics that could shine in the full release.

While the visuals and voice acting currently hold it back slightly, it’s too early to declare them weaknesses in the final product. Based on this demo, Inky Blinky Bob looks like a creative indie worth watching.

Pros

  • Customizable hot air balloon combat is a unique and fun concept
  • Exploration feels smooth and promising
  • Gritty comic-inspired aesthetic

Cons

  • Controller support needs refinement
  • Visual presentation feels uneven in places
  • Several demo glitches required restarts
  • Voice acting lacks impact

Overall Score

7.5

I always applaud developers who take risks in today’s crowded indie market. Creating something original requires courage, and ELDELIC GAMES deserves credit for that. If I hadn’t known this was their first project, I wouldn’t have guessed from the demo alone.

There’s a lot to like here. While some rough edges remain—likely due to the demo build—Inky Blinky Bob shows solid potential. It’s a title worth keeping an eye on ahead of its March 20th, 2026 release. We here at SunsetNerdVerse look forward to seeing how the final version shapes up.
