Introduction

You know, I loved A Silent Voice. Those unfamiliar with A Silent Voice (fix that immediately please), it’s a romance drama that centered on a former bully changing to be a better person, especially with a young woman who was deaf. It was an endearing film and the manga was amazing as well. That’s why I think I was already loving the idea of You Talk Too Much, So Just Shut It Already! Again, we have a female protagonist who is deaf, but unlike the more seriously toned A Silent Voice, this is more lighthearted and cute with some added romance. I was graciously offered an early review copy of the first volume by One Peace Books (thank you folks) and I was very pleased with the end result! Here’s my review of Volume 1!

Art Style

This manga just filled me with smiles when I saw the first page. The art style is nothing but adorable. While not quite original, it still has endearing qualities. Illustrator ALDEHYDE alongside mangaka Shunpei Morita convey their world and characters in a way I don’t see too often. It also helps create a realistic take on public interactions that can overwhelm those with disabilities. The character designs and themes aren’t 100% original, but that doesn’t matter—this manga has heart, and it’s led by the art itself.

Story & Characters

I can’t say this enough: I ship Taiyo Enomoto and Tsukino Hiiragi. Taiyo is an overly kind (maybe too kind) boy who ends up befriending Tsukino when she transfers to his school. Tsukino is deaf but can read lips, which leads to funny and cute moments. It’s a simple boy-meets-girl affair, but the added element of her disability gives the story needed strength. Their reactions are hilarious—especially when a misinterpretation causes chaos. The only other central character so far is Sakura, who seems added for extra comedy, but I hope to see more developed characters, maybe others with disabilities, in future volumes.

Pacing

I had no issues with the pacing. The story follows day-to-day moments and doesn’t try too hard to be anything more than what it is—and that works perfectly for it.

Panel Layout & Flow

The manga becomes stronger thanks to its panel layout and flow. Watching Hiiragi get overwhelmed by too many shocking moments—or when Taiyo doesn’t shut up (title relevance!)—is brilliantly captured. When Taiyo goes into full “helper mode,” the panels show his eagerness in an almost exaggerated but charming way. No complaints here.

Themes & Tone

This is where the manga could have easily lost me. At my job, I work with individuals with special needs and disabilities, so I understand how frustrating communication challenges can be. This manga nails its tone—it creates a cute, respectful story around a girl with a hearing disability without making it creepy or dramatic. It shows frustration without mockery, and relatability without pity. Huge respect to the creators for this.

Pros

  • Cute main characters who already have solid chemistry
  • Hilarious dialogue that makes for some laugh out loud moments
  • Good handling of a girl with a deaf handicap

Cons

  • Not enough characters that matter just yet
  • Art is nice but character designs feel a bit unoriginal

Overall Score

9.5

Conclusion

You Talk Too Much, So Just Shut It Already! Volume 1 pleasantly surprised me. I didn’t know what to expect, but what I got was an enjoyable, cute, and comedic first volume with just enough romance and depth to leave a lasting impression. It respects those who are deaf and offers authentic moments of connection and confusion in a relatable way. I’m definitely looking forward to future volumes! Thanks again to One Peace Books for the early copy and this fun read!
